Food for share

Just thought to share some food I find nice that I had over the weekend, well is more like a snack actually. I dont know how it should call but lets name it Tempura Local Style (TLS for short).

This stall located at GreenLane, easier ways to give direction to the stall is along GreenLane there is a McD restaurant next to a Shell petrol station. Along the junction turn into McD restaurant and goes straight down before reaching a roundabout you will see a "tempura" stall with hot wok and oil on your right hand side. That's it.

What is selling? Deep fried stuff like fried banana's, tapioca, sweet potato, yam, green peas (you might wonder what but later let me try to explain) and is hard for me to describe this but in hockien it called "Ti Kueh", mandarin is "年糕", direct translate is "sweet cake". Something that we always see during chinese new year that it is sticky and sweet and used to contain in a bamboo casing. All this thing will be coated with paste of flour and deep fried.

They are famous with there "Ti Kueh" which they sandwiched the slice "Ti Kueh" with sweet potatoes and yam. It is good but I am not the fans of it. I prefer their Green Peas, bananas, kuih kolok and their sweet potatoes. Let me explain Green Peas for you guys. It is similar to soy bean and red bean but is much much smaller size and green in color. I think they grinded the beans and make a paste before they deep fried.
The Green Pea deep fried.

I am so in love with its Kueh Kolok which I have totaly no idea what "kolok" means in BM. I could describe the food as roundish, dark chocolate color like and banana tasty. It is soft and a bit chewy. Too bad last weekend when I was there it is not ready yet. So I take another cousin of Kueh Kolok on the deep fried banana.

The Deep Fried Banana.
What I found special about the stall is that the cook will deep fried the food/fruit twice. What I use to see is the cook normally fried it once only. I think this make the "Tempura" taste cruchier.
Karipap anyone?
Nice reddish hot filling inside the Karipap
Special tip passdown by the stall owner
Speaking of this I recall that day when I was there with friends to buy the "tempura" I have done my choice and payed but my friend still waiting for the "Tee Kueh" that in on frying. I am tempted with the Kueh Kolok and Green Peas so I took one of each on the spot, it taste so good that I finish half of my first bought of Kueh Kolok and Green Peas. So I reloaded and keep saying damn is good loudly. I guess this cheer up the boss and he pass down this tip to me.
  • If you buying such tempura hot from the wok for a take away (BTW there they no serve table nor drinks, all take away), do not wrap them as such. The heat from the food will vaporize the water then condense to water droplet around the plastic and will fall to the food soften the crunchy outer layer. Make the food taste less delicious.
No, jangan, da-me, 不要, mai
Leave it open, eventually it will get cold but still you get the crunchy taste.
